DPD Ireland

‘DPD 10 Days of Christmas’

We know DPD as the parcel carrier arriving at our door steps.  It has 520 employees in Athlone, 1,300 country wide, and handles 24 million parcels per year. The Christmas peak is the most challenging time for the majority of DPD employees. Yet the HR team developed the 10 Days of Christmas initiative to hold events at this peak time to motivate and maintain positivity in December.

Very counter-intuitively, they organised a variety of activities across the day and night operation on 10 specific days in December. They aimed to boost morale, decrease absenteeism, and recognise the valued contribution of employees at the busiest time. The judges awarded this a mark of 100 out of 100, so impressed were they by HR’s leadership across the business and how they bought discretionary effort at the most critical time of the year.

WaterWipes

‘People led Business Growth Strategy’

The judges wanted to recognise this phenomenal Irish success story that employs 250, and plans to recruit another 100 this year. In the context of ambition of hyper growth, the WaterWipes HR team successfully pitched the idea of designing the growth strategy with People, Culture and Performance at its core, rather than the traditional finance-led approach.

They rolled out a cross-functional co-creation process, that involved employees from various levels of the business, culminating in a detailed, measurable business strategy with a cultural focus, a behaviours charter, all underpinned by the WaterWipes values of Brave, Excellence and Respect.
